MagicJack for the cell phone
MagicJack is now developing a counterpart for the cell phone to save your minutes and dollars when you are talking on the cellphone from home.
The regular MagicJack is a small USB device the size of the old matchboxes and just about as light. It has a USB connection on one side and a modular telephone jack on the other side like the outlets you have on the wall in your home. If you inset the USB connection into a computer with Internet broadband connection and connect a telephone to the other end, you have a live telephone in about 60 second give or take. Now you can place calls to anywhere nationwide at no cost.
Currently, a MagicJack device is selling for $40 in many office or computer stores. It is good for a full year and for $20 per year you can continue to use it after the first year. International calls cost a small fee. All transmissions are made on your Internet connection which must be broadband.
The people at the company are planning to come out into the market with a new device for your cell phone in the next few months. Here is how the new device is expected to work: you plug it into the Internet-enabled computer and leave it there. If your cell phone is detected by the device (within 8 feet distance), it will place a call to the cellphone. Then when you answer the call, you will punch in a pre-defined code and the two are linked via a wireless connection created by the device.
Any calls you place or receive while you are within range (a normal to large home) will go through your Internet connection even though you are talking on your cell phone. Your cell phone will not incur any minute usage are charges. If you make long distance calls, you are being charged a small fee by the MagicJack and not the high cell phone fees. How about that? The cost is expected to be similar to the regular MagicJack or about $40.
