One of the biggest benefits of a regular yoga practice, is a balancing of hormones. Children that practice yoga from an early age move slowly towards puberty without the uncomfortable rush experienced during their teenage years that can be hellacious for children and parents alike!
And also when women reach that "time of life" and the ovaries start to produce less estrogen and progesterone as they go into premenopause, will know about the uncomfortable feelings as hormone levels go up and down! HRT may alleviate some of the symptoms with a low dose of estrogen, but there are side-effects. The menopause is a natural stage to go through for all women, but that doesn't make it any easier to deal with!
Yoga however, does make it a lot easier to deal with. Some of the less strenuous styles of yoga that incorporate meditation and pranayama (breathing exercises) are perfect in helping to slow the hormonal changes and balancing the ebb and flows. Mainly, I feel, because the different exercises help to bring you in touch with your body and you start to be more aware of all the little daily tensions. Knowing when you're tired or drained of energy and being able to do a couple of energising stretches if you haven't time to sit and take a break, is a wonderful thing!
Hers'a link to articles by Trisha Gura in the excellent yoga journal
In them Trisha guides you through some different poses that can be beneficial for each individual symptoms. Technically any of the restorative yoga poses are superb. But the main point is, you don't have to suffer as your body goes through it's natural changes and there is an answer to the debatable HRT treatment.

Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro review: Great performance and a better-than-Retina display
5:30 (GMT) - 17.12.2013
Lenovo has come darn close to creating the perfect laptop/tablet combo design with its 3-pound, $1000-plus IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro. It brings Windows users a better-than-Retina display, has speed to spare, is sturdily constructed, and is remarkably thin for a dual-role design. The only thing missing is Lenovo's famously excellent typing experience. The first thing you'll notice when you boot a Lenovo ...
17 Things You Want To Say During Yoga Class, But Don't

Yoga class is sacred time. It's a space where you can quiet your mind and let your body breathe itself into flexible awareness. It's not our faults we still struggle in downward dog and it's almost impossible to hold back a loud laugh when your tiny and bendy instructor says something ridiculous like ...

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Over the last few years, yoga pants have made their way from the ashram to the forefront of everyday fashion and everyday life. Wall Street has fallen victim to such trends in the past, and the strength of the concept is debatable. Based on online search ...
Why You Should Treat Laughter As A Metric

I was following the same yoga video I had followed more than 30 times in the past. Because I know the routine well, I usually have little trouble breathing rhythmically through the postures, feeling the subtleties of each movement, and sliding gently into a mind-body meditation.
